A pool in the mountains runs on a shorter season and a longer list of chores than one in the Lowcountry.
The tree cover that makes Asheville lots pleasant is the same tree cover that fills a skimmer basket in a weekend. Pollen in spring, leaves in fall, and the swings between a warm afternoon and a cold night all work against stable water chemistry. Most owners here find that a weekly service through the season costs less than what they spend correcting an algae bloom they let get ahead of them.
What a weekly visit should include: brushing walls and steps, vacuuming, emptying skimmer and pump baskets, checking filter pressure, and testing and adjusting chemistry. Ask what happens when something is out of range, and whether chemicals are included in the quoted price or billed separately. That single question explains most of the spread between two quotes that look different on paper.
Opening and closing matter more in this climate than in a warmer one. A pool that goes into a mountain winter improperly closed can come out of it with cracked plumbing, and that repair costs more than several seasons of service.

They sell and install above-ground pools, carry the Doughboy line, and stock chemicals and supplies with water testing in store. Above-ground is worth considering seriously on a lot of Asheville lots. Where the ground falls away sharply, excavating for an in-ground pool means retaining walls and engineering that can cost more than the pool itself, and a well-sited above-ground pool with a deck built around it solves the same problem for a fraction of the money.

E-Z Care Pool & Spa Service is a father-and-son operation based in Asheville and covering Western North Carolina. The business started in south Florida in 1979 and moved to the mountains in 2005, which is a genuinely different set of problems. Corey Gill has more than forty years in the trade and his son Chance joined in 2016. They offer maintenance on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedule, plus repairs and seasonal openings and closings. The bi-weekly and monthly options are worth knowing about if your pool is lightly used or you handle basic skimming yourself and only want the chemistry checked by someone who does it for a living.

Safety covers are worth a conversation in this climate. A solid winter cover that holds a load of wet leaves and snow is a different product from a summer solar cover, and the wrong one becomes a hazard rather than a barrier.
